UPP demonstrates a huge positive impact to the environment and students’ experience whilst living in University Halls across the top 15 Universities in the UK. Our ongoing work involves multiple documentary style videos for UPP’s video led strategy. A plan that we helped develop with internal comms and marketing teams.
To excite and engage employees through the strategic pillars. Motivating and making them feel proud of the work they do every day as frontline workers, and delivering a great student experience with university partners.
The audience at UPP is very diverse, with the majority of colleagues in ‘Residential Services', working at sites with students and university partners. These colleagues perform roles from maintenance to cleaning, reception and more. They can be hard to reach, due to the nature of their work, geographies and shift patterns.
The small green studio devised and delivered a fly-on-the wall documentary-style video series. UPP’s internal communication channel suite had previously not involved much video so the ask was to use real footage of the teams in action to bring to life the business strategy, featuring UPP colleagues, students and partners to illustrate their work and its impact in more meaningful ways. The videos were to be shown at National Town Halls and the Management Conference.
Town Halls received a rating of 4.49/5 in a post-event survey of attendees, with the videos cited as highlights of the content. The Internal Communications team measured an increase of 18% points in colleagues’ understanding of UPP’s priorities and a 9% increase in colleagues ‘Definitely’ understanding their role within it. We also saw a jump in overall rating of the town hall, with an additional 15% points rating the session as ‘Excellent’ overall.

A cut of the video is now also used for brand attraction and in the onboarding process which weren’t initially in scope. The small green studio obliged to re-cut and host this for us too.
